Hey, it looks like I can finally put this ordeal behind me now. The Better Business Bureau complaint has finally paid off. First American Home Buyers Protection finally, after several weeks, decided to pay the claim and fix my electrical problem. On Thursday, Oct. 16th an electrical contractor fixed the meter box and we now have electric throughout the entire house.
The total bill was somewhere around eight hundred dollars. I had to pay one hundred and fifty six dollars for two grounding cables. First American Home Warranty Rip Off wouldn’t cover that and to be fair that is in their terms. Too bad I didn’t have a Home Improvement Guide handy, I could have tackled the job myself. Can you see I still hold a little grudge? Damn right I do. Going on two years now, I have never been late on a single payment. I don’t think we should have to fight tooth and nail to get them to fix something.
Even though I can thank the Better Business Bureau for First American Home Buyers Protection’s change of heart, I am a little concerned about their procedure. I filed the complaint, they responded, I rebutted and you would think it would be up to me to close the whole thing, right? Wrong, First American Home Buyers Protection sent the final message to close the case and the Better Business Bureau accepted it. I received a message from the BBB stating that the issue was considered resolved and closed once they received the second notice from First American Home Buyers Protection. In other words, I get one rebuttal and after that it’s the reported company that decides if the issue was satisfactorily resolved. It worked out in the end but I didn’t expect that.

Good for you, see my complaint in the complaints section.
This company is so bad that both the listing and buyers real estate agents said the will not use 1st American.
I hope my complaint to the Texas Insurance Board brings some heat on them, my goal is to expose them as the fraud they are and shut them down.

I will never use First American again either and I tell all my friends BEWARE. With the purchase of our house our realator bought us a year. We had good luck getting our microwave/oven replaced but when it came to our 24 year old stove/half burner half glasstop… they refused to approve a new one even when the 3 different repair guys came out to keep fixing it told them it wasnt worth fixing… they spent over $1500 in parts and repairs on a 24 YEAR OLD STOVE that could have cost less then $1500 to replace and last another 24 years! Real Smart First American… but hey.. it works now so I guess I cant complain too bad right?

I am so sorry to hear about your problem. I have had this insurance for over 2 years, with several claims and they have covered all of them with no problem. I have never been denied. I don’t know if it is location or what, but, I am very happy with them.

First American has been jerking me around for 4 months now on a microwave. They have sent out a technician 5 times as of today. Microwave still doesn’t work. I filed the claim on Dec 30, 2009, and as of today, it still isn’t fixed. Total BS!! I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

This company is a nightmare!!! I’ve filed a complaint with the Department of Consumers, as well as my local TV station for an interview. DOn’t go through the headaches I’ve gone through. THey will give any excuse not to pay a claim!

I was without air conditioning for 4 weeks because of this company. It is well over 100 degrees in Texas. They left me high and dry and cost me $147.00 in phone bills calling them every day, only to get lies, and more lies. I have paid into this so called “insurance company” for years, and this is the 2nd time i have used them. DO NOT PAY THEM A DIME. THEY ARE A SCAM.
