Claim Denied!

claim_denied.jpgOk, no surprise here. After two weeks with no electricity First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation’s lack of integrity and complete disregard for their loyal customers reigns through again. First American Home Warranty let my family sit in a dark and potentially dangerous house for nearly two weeks while they sat on their hands doing nothing but making up excuses.

I wouldn’t recommend them to plunge your toilet!

Two weeks ago we lost power to half our house. The other half was blinking off and on like a disco strobe light. No problem, we have a home warranty right? Wrong! We had a worthless verbal contract with a lying sales rep at First American Home Warranty and a monthly bill of $47! Near the end of our second year with this disgraceful company and I wouldn’t recommend them to plunge your toilet!

When we called First American Home Warranty to inform them of our problem they said they would contact a technician to setup an appointment. They did and after several days we finally had an electrician looking over the problem. I was glad we had a home warranty and this service call was only going to cost me $55. The electrician said the riser (metal pipe) had broke free from our meter box and allowed rain in. The rain shorted the line out and a new meter box was necessary. The electrical technician said the cost would be $348 and when he submitted it to First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation they told him it wasn’t covered. I had to pay him the $55 without the repair.

I called First American customer service right away and was told not to worry. The customer service rep said he didn’t see why it would not be covered and that it had been scheduled for a second opinion. He said they probably told the tech it was not covered rather than admit they wanted a second opinion. “Ok“, I said, “But please hurry because we’re in the dark here and I’m worried my house is going to burn down“.

It took a week to get their second opinion. The second electrician verified the problem and wanted twice as much money to fix it. Denied! Here we go again…

The greedy Gods at First American Home Warranty get to decide

Now First American Warranty says they can’t pay the claim because it’s not normal wear and tear. So two weeks of jerking us around they leave us holding the bag while they re-define the English language. Normal wear and tear? Why wouldn’t it be normal wear and tear? It’s a thin box of pot metal that’s been exposed to the elements for years. That box is certainly over twenty years old. What’s normal? Should it last a thirty years? Fifty? Perhaps a century? I guess the greedy Gods at First American Home Warranty get to decide, of coarse, in their favor.

Don’t Do Business With First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation!

The amount isn’t enough to file a law suit but it is enough to piss me the hell off. First American Home Warranty is now my new hobby. I dedicate this site to warn others before they become First American Home Warranty’s next cash cow just to be discarded in their time of need. 1. Thank you but I too have had nothing but claims deinied. They denied a water heater replacement. Anna there rep told us to drain the hot water heater to see if that would heat the water longer and if that did not work call back and they will have to replace it. We followed her instruction and called back still denied claim because of calcium build up. The hot water heater is over fifteen years old (what is normal wear and tear).
They sent a tech out for the AC and Heater he states we need a new thermostate fine he puts on but does not connect the wires, a few months later thermostate not working called the company they send out another tech he discovered that they were no wire leading to the thermostat First American deny claim stating they do not do corrections. We explained it was the previous tech error but they called us liars. The Biggest Rip off I have ever encountered.

  3. The First American Home Warranty Plan is under investigation by a law firm

I just found that a law firm that is currently investigating the home warranty plans of First American Home for potential consumer claims for wrongfully denying consumer claims!

The law firm said that they want to talk to both consumers who have purchased First American Home Warranty Co.’s home warranty plans and independent contractors who used to work for First American Home Warranty Co.

Same story here, except it was a gas leak at the furnace. They said the leak was caused by a previous installation that was not done correctly. I told them that no work had been done on the furnace nor gas connection since buying the house 4 years ago. This was a simple job of replacing a short flex line with a hard line ( I told them I could buy the supplies at the hardware store for $1.78). I also informed them that there is not ANY home that is 30 years old that has not had previous repairs, and if that is their policy, they should stop accepting warranties on older homes. I will file a complaint with BBB, as well as the insurance board. Oh, and to make matters worse, when I called to make the claim I was offered the option of paying the $55 fee by credit card, which i did. When the serviceman came, he asked for the service fee. I called 1st Am and they said I had not paid the fee, and stated that the person who took my call must have failed to enter the info, and did I want to pay it now. I refused to pay again, and then 2 days later the charge shows up on my credit card, paid to the service company!!! The whole thing is croked, including the service company that is in their pocket.
